My Super Sweet 16 – Aaron Reid

July 18, 2006 at 4:25 pm 51 comments

I just checked out MTV’s My Super Sweet 16 that featured Aaron Reid’s party. I must say that the entire setup to execution to the party itself just blew me away. C’mon, let me indulge in some reality shows once in a little while and think of myself as one of those rich, spoilt and bratty kids out there. I am already two-thirds of the equation with my spoilt and bratty portion but there’s still one more element of rich that I am still lacking in. I like to say not yet more so than admit never.

Anyway, back to the TV show, it really brings to our faces what we suspected was happening to the rich kids around but never expected what it actually is like. We think that rich kids drive around in Mercedes Benzs, hang around in clubs with V.I.P. entry passes, buy stuff without looking at their prices. We are probably 1% right, what we never expected is that a rich kid holds his 16th birthday party at Jay-Z’s NYC club, invites P. Diddy to his birthday party, gets Kanye West to perform, receives video greetings from Mariah Carey and the likes. Oh yeah, did I mention that his invitations are in the form of an M.P.3 player where he records his invitation in it?

Now we are talking about Rich with a capital R.

Of course I do like for the day where I can relish in such sinful indulgences and let the whole world hate me. The root of hate is actually love, as often said by people around. But as what one of my good friends, Pearl , told me last night, she has never been that rich before, so it doesn’t really matter if she doesn’t get it. Makes absolute sense to me.

But then it doesn’t hurt to think of it sometimes right?

A very nice party indeed. I just wonder what these children who are indulged these extravagent lifestyles have to look forward to in the future. My first love who was pretty much my boyfriend until I went off to college and he was left back in highschool was born from the first minority owned oil company. He never had to work during his summer breaks, he always had the latest styles and lived this fabulous lifestyle. Now he is working in the mail room at a law firm in DC. My point is that there is nothing wrong with giving your children part of what you have or what you earned (my four year old is getting the Peg Perego Ducati Motorcycle for his Birthday and a $400 pool party sleepover which is two days before Christmas – so I get it) as this is part of why we do what we do. My concern is that these children seem to think that they are entitled or that there will never be a day where they will come of their own and when they do will it be on the same level as Mommy and Daddy? My point is that we still need to instill values in our children.

    Hi everybody,
I read all your comments, but do you guys ever think about the money that this ÂŽover the topÂŽ party costs. With the same money you can help 1000 s of aids children in Africa. I wonder if he thinks about it only 1 second

  • 9. thimerosa  |  December 5, 2006 at 2:46 am

We will never really know if he thinks about it. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t. For all we know, he might be doing his part in donating money to Africa, just that he does not believe in advertising that fact. *Shrugs*

Just a conjuncture at this point in time. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.

this kid is extremely fat. not ph fat. i dont respect anyone who is fat. i saw him at garlic bobs eating an entire pie. a word of advice my friend… hit the gym!

  • 11. Jezebel  |  January 17, 2007 at 12:57 pm

Don’t know if Mr. Reid donates to children affected by AIDS in Africa. But, what I do know is that he has another child with whom he has no relationship and hasn’t seen in over 3 years. Furthermore, though he “supports” this child, you can BEST believe it’s not even remotely comparable to the lifestyle provided Aaron. Yet, somehow, I think this kid (the one with whom he has no relationship) is likely better off without all of the “hoopla” and will have a much better value system than the children Mr. Reid indulges.

I’m just impressed with stupidity of American rich parents and people who left their comments ant the ‘wow..i know someone who gave him a gandjob, woooooow..’ fucking impressive!! How can you worship people only because they got money!! It’s so stupid, don’t you have any brains at all. This fat, ugly and spoilt kid doesn’t deserve anything but pitty!! He will probably be rich in furute, only because of his father, he’s got nothing except the money! Sad, I don’t accept such people..

I don’t blame these kids. They were born into money and that is all they know. Hopefully, when they mature they will learn to give back to the community.

  • 19. Sam  |  April 12, 2007 at 2:52 am

I saw the sweet sixteen episode yesterday and I was wondering how do you get so fat when you are that young, is this a cultural thing, cause man you are gonna die when your 25 because of obesity

  • 24. Stephanie  |  July 7, 2007 at 4:39 pm

Okay…i cant understand how someone can say they respect someone simply because he has so much money and throws a good party…thats ridiculous…however, i cant sit here and bash the guy…sheesh people…dont sit there and insult people you dont know and have never met….thats ridiculous as well and just seems like you are jealous of what he has…

    Stay Irie People,

  • 25. CamelToe  |  July 9, 2007 at 11:15 pm

Aaron Reid has problems beyond those mentioned here and evident on his sweet 16 episode. He has a seriously advanced case of diabetes, and was recently diagnosed with lymphatic cancer. He is not doing himself any favors by staying as overweight as he is. The sad truth of the matter is that even without these ailments, his life expectancy, without serious changes, would be hardly 1/2 the average. At more than 300 lbs, his projected weight by the age of thirty is well over 400 lbs. The strain on his heart will prove to be a major problem for him, and this indulgence and utterly careless attitude towards his health will prove to be the biggest money pit his father has ever seen. sad.

  • 26. CamelToe  |  July 10, 2007 at 2:03 am

Dear Users: I am very sorry about the above posting. I have no idea who said it or why. I don’t know who this aaron reid is, nor do I care. I have nothing against him, nor do I possess any information as to his state of health.

I suppose it serves me right for leaving my computer on in a public area. Anyway, that is all.

  • 27. ?  |  August 11, 2007 at 3:15 am

i watched a few episodes of My Super Sweet 16 and apart from the fact that these kids are all really rude and spoilt i have to ask what they are going to do for thier ,18, 20, and 21st birthdays?

  • 28. Mills  |  August 27, 2007 at 7:29 pm

Hey there is NOTHING wrong with being a sweet sixteener! I will be featuring in the UK version and it’s all so fab.

Just because your parents can afford to spend money on you does not mean they are stupid; my parents donate a lot of money to charity aswell!!

So lighten up and have some fuuuun x

  • 29. Mills  |  August 27, 2007 at 7:32 pm

do all you guys have something against money?! Or just a simple jealousy towards those who have what you don’t?!

  • 30. Christine  |  September 10, 2007 at 9:25 pm

Mills, it’s not jealousy. In all fairness, the way i see it, whilst acknowledging the fact that often most of it is just a waste of money, the parents did earn that money themselves and thus have a right to do whatever they want it. What i think annoys most people is the fact that the 16ers are just spoilt brats.

I watched an ep where the girl made this big deal because her mum chose centrepieces which she didnt like (please note that this saved them some 10,000 dollars)…

or aaron reid episode – he made a fuss (a big fuss) because there were cars parked near the entrance and so he couldn’t make his grand entrance, like the king that he was…

    Come on!

  • 31. Laura  |  October 10, 2007 at 11:45 pm

    Hes not cool!

He has to be the most spoilt brat there ever was!

He ordered and quite frankly waz a brat. I only watch the show to take the mick, anyone his is as spoilt as that needs a reality check. What an idiot!

    • 32. HBM  |  April 4, 2011 at 11:48 am

You’re completely correct, Laura. The guy is an absolute clown.

  • 33. chris  |  November 7, 2007 at 9:24 am

aaron reid once again ATE OUR WHOLE food supple here in Chicago.. the man is EXTREMELY fat.. i aint hatin, but the fat kid thinks he looks good.. all i got to say is last time i seen him on tv i thought they were advertising a van

  • 34. StuckInAMoment  |  November 21, 2007 at 12:46 am

Interesting show this sweet sixteen…I was amazed by that party, have never attended something like that…impressive…however…what goals do Aaron or anyone else of these rich young people trying to reach for in the future…I once wished that I was a little bit richer so I could afford a nice car…then what…then I would need a nicer house…and after that…I mean I’m happy for him but I wouldn’t trade places with, at least not for the rest of my life…wouldn’t like to live in an artificial world like that where most of the people love and respect you because of the money…rather I own my respect for who I am…and Aaron might want to do something himself, but what can he do when he is born into a reality where everyone expects him to be spoiled…

  • 35. StuckInAMoment  |  November 21, 2007 at 1:00 am

…but still I don’t think he would like to trade places with me either…:D…

what else would you expect from the man who runs def jam records, notice most of the rappers that performed were signed by def jam so i doubt he even had to pay them for the appearance, but damn, that shit was like million and a 1/3 in the end. put all the other rich peoples partys to shame, shows you how record labels get the MONEY

  • 45. T.I.  |  November 6, 2008 at 12:13 am

Ey, wisst ihr wie das lied heisst, das Jermaine Dupri auflegt??

  • 46. nagger  |  November 7, 2008 at 11:55 pm

Do you know the song as called, the Jermaine Dupri plays?

  • 47. mimi  |  February 2, 2010 at 1:51 am

what was the name of song sang by kanye west??

  • 48. Frenchgirl  |  June 6, 2010 at 6:42 am

It’s right that I kinda hate those Rich people but I think it’s also by jealousy. But it pissed me off to see how spoiled they are and how they take everything for granted. They always want more and more and never realize how lucky they are. At least, that’s what I think when I see their behavior.

And that is completely that if you’ve never been rich like that, it doesn’t really matter if you don’t get it. However, it would be REALLY hard if one of those kids has to live in the street one day (or maybe not that bad, but at least don’t have as much money as their parents do). If it does happen to them, it would be really. So in the end, I feel lucky not to be that rich!! 😀
